LONG AND HEALTHY LIFE

Telomeres are the caps at the end of each strand of DNA that protect our chromosomes, like the plastic tips at the end of shoelaces. Without the coating, shoelaces become frayed until they can no longer do their job, just as without telomeres, DNA strands become damaged and our cells can't do their job. Hayflick Limit is a concept that means a maximum number of times a human cell can replicate. Normally, a cell can replicate 45 to 60 times before stopping to divide further. This is the stage when it dies and is cleared by our lymphatic system. After every cell division, the length of a telomere is shortened and the organism starts getting old.

The scientists of the Spanish National Cancer Research Center have successfully elongated the telomeres of mice (rats) which has not only prolonged their age by 24% but also made them resistant to cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Successful experimentation will lead to research on humans.

NAD+ is the coenzyme that tells the cells to look after themselves. After the age of 50, we have a 50 percent reduction in these coenzymes as compared with a person of age 20. Lowering the number of NAD+ causes cancers, Alzheimer's disease, skin diseases, and multiple sclerosis. In the future, NAD+ may become an anti-aging pill. Metformin, a drug for diabetes is also being used for longevity. Stress and the lack of sleep decrease the length of the telomeres.

If the scientists are successful, humans will die young at the age of 120 or more. There are animals like flatworms, hydras, lobsters, midland painted turtles, etc., who do not get old. If the scientists are successful in controlling old age, it will happen with the help of the knowledge that God has bestowed upon the scientist and people will enjoy long and healthy lives by His orders. All this is going to happen in a decade or less.
