IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR DIABETICS

100 grams of whole wheat flour contains approximately 70 percent carbohydrate, i.e., 70 grams (approximately 14 teaspoons of sugar). Fine wheat flour contains a higher percentage. 70 grams of sugar will raise the blood sugar of a 90 KG person to approximately 210 mg/dl. A naan contains 134 grams of carbohydrates with 540 calories

If a normal person eats too many carbohydrates, his pancreas will have to secrete more insulin. Excessive secretion of insulin creates insulin resistance which causes many diseases like metabolic syndrome, weight gain, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular problems.

One teaspoon of sugar weighs approximately 5 grams. If your weight is between 77 and 105 KG, one gram of carbohydrate will raise blood sugar by 3 mg/dl. If your blood sugar has gone down to 60 mg/dl and you feel low blood sugar you will have to take 20 grams of sugar (4 teaspoons) to bring your blood sugar level to 120 mg/dl. If your weight is between 48-76 KG you will need 60 divided by 4 = 15 grams, that is, one tablespoon. Sometimes when our blood sugar becomes low, we eat a lot of sweets and become hyperglycemic again.
